(shot starts with Albert and Jamie playing with the swings at the park
with some kids their age, then changes to Lydia and a girl, seated in
one of the tables)

Tanya: Well, I know it’s a bit shocking, but are you sure about your decision?

Lydia: I am, I’m very sure about it. I don’t know how it came to this but I just couldn’t be with him anymore.

Tanya: Why?

(Lydia looks away. Silence)

Tanya: What about them? (looks into the direction of Albert and Jamie)

Lydia: I’m going to take care of them.

Tanya: But they are his kids too you know.

Lydia: I know, that’s why I’m going to file for a divorce take custody of them.

(Tanya’s face turned red)

Tanya: You what? I thought……

Lydia: That I’m giving it some time? No. I made up my mind and I’m sticking to it.

Tanya: (sighs) Lyd, you’re my sister, and I love you very much
(Holds Lydia’s hand), but don’t you think this is a bit unfair for him?
You’re going to divorce him without a single solid reason, and take the
kids away from them, wouldn’t it hurt him?

Lydia: I know, I don’t like doing it but this is my decision.

(Tanya looks at the kid’s direction)

Tanya: You know he’ll fight for the custody…..

Lydia: Yes, but Danny’s going to help me with…..

Tanya: Wait…Danny?

Lydia: Yeah, Danny, you met him last Christmas didn’t you?

Tanya: Yes I know him, but why he’s helping you with this?

Lydia: He’s a good friend, besides, he knows some people in the department. He can push something to favor me.

Tanya: Lyd, I’m not really sure about what’s you’re doing, especially when it involves Danny.

Lydia: Look, all this while Jake’s been taking care of the kids while I don’t get the chance to be around them much…

Tanya: It’s because YOU made the decision not to be around with them much thanks to your work!

Lydia: That’s going to change now. I’m leaving him and taking the kids with me. It’s my turn to take care of them.

(Silence. An expression of uncertainty and dislike shows in Tanya’s face)

Tanya: (Looks at Lydia) Whatever it is, I’m with you. I just hope you’re doing the right thing.

(Lydia stands, takes a few steps forward)

Lydia: ALBERT, JAMIE, LET’S GO NOW…..

(shot changes to an unidentifies figure watching the two sisters
and the kids from inside a car while they take the kids by the hands
and walks away from the park)

(Jake’s house, Kitchen shot. Jake, Joshua and Mick seated in the
kitchen table while Audrey is arranging the dishes in the dishwasher)

Joshua: Glad you learned all of mom’s cookings

Audrey: You guys like it?

Joshua: Well…erm…Mick’s flitching. Jake would probably enjoyed.

Mick: Don’t mind him, your cooking’s great Audrey.

Audrey: Yeah I know….(winks at Mick as she approaches the table. Takes a seat and reaches for a cup and the teapot)

Jake: (sips the tea) Haven’t had earl grey for a while. Just the same old coffee for the past few weeks.

Mick: Americans…

Jake: Tell me about it.

Audrey: And you suddenly hate her.

Jake: (looks at Audrey) I don’t hate her. I hate what she did.

Joshua: We know that mate. Situation’s not right. This whole thing stinks like a skunk.

(Audrey pours tea to her cup)

Mick: Well, technically, you’re not divorced….yet.

Jake: Matter of time.

Joshua: What about the kids?

Audrey: That is going to be a problem. You’re married in Jersey,
you’ll have to divorce there. And the custody, should there be a court
case will be held there, not here…..

Mick: SO forget about fair fight. Chances are she’ll end up with the kids.

(Jake puts down the teacup)

Jake: I’m not going to let that happen! I took care of them almost
their entire life while she runs from country to country still doing
her so-called duty for her country.

Audrey: But that’s not going to stand in the court Jake, you know that.

Joshua: And given her connection to the government, I’d say it’s going to be a one sided fight.

Jake: I can’t believe we’re talking about divorce, you think she’ll….

Joshua: If she can beat you up, divorce’s going to be a walk in the park for her.

(Sigh from Jake. He buried his hand to his face. Silence)

Mick: We need something….

Joshua: Damn right we do….

Mick: Jake, you don’t have a clue about the guy who was with her?

(Jake lifts his face)

Jake: Never seen him, it was all blurry, but he was tall, black, well built. Definately American.

Mick: Probably another Nav-Intel.

Jake: Probably. Just that she never mentioned anyone of that description to me before.

Joshua: Or probably you’re not supposed to know.

Jake: (looks at Joshua) What do you mean by that?

Joshua: You know what I mean….

Jake: (shakes head) No…no way. I know her. She wouldn’t even……

(brief silence. Everybody looks at Jake)

Jake: Are you suggesting that she and that guy….

Audrey: It’s not impossible.

Jake: Oh come on. I know her!

Joshua: If you knew her you would have seen this coming. But
instead, she comes in, tells you that she don’t love you anymore, and remember
you suspected something too, and she got pissed mad and beats the living daylight out of you. Tell me if this is not falling to pieces mate.

Jake: I spun out of control….

Joshua: So did she….

Audrey: Josh is right.

(shot changes to a thinking Mick)

Mick: Right now we need to cover all grounds. Since we don’t know
him, I guess the best possible way is to lift up any prints we have in
any sections of the house that he could have been, and cross ref it
with the SAS files. Whoever this guy is he knows you for sure, and he
could have been liased with the SAS, probably around the time you and
her met up.

Joshua: That could work. You still have your gears Jake?

Jake: Yeah, I still keep them around for old time’s sake.

Joshua: (coughs out a laugh) Jolly good times I should say. I’ll
work on the prints tonight, send them over to our old chums at SAS, see
what they can come up.

Mick: (holds Jake’s shoulder) You don’t worry mate, we’ll get this one out.

(shot of what looks like a madeshift 8 year old room. Door opens. Two kids-Albert and Jamie enters the room along with Daniel)

Daniel: Here you are, you’ll be staying here for a while.

(Albert and Jamie looks around)

Daniel: Don’t be shy now, make yourselves at home

ALbert: (turns around to Daniel) who are you?

Daniel: (bends down) I’m mommy’s friend. This is my place. You’ll
be here for a while until your mommy is done with your new place.

Jamie: What do you mean by new place?

(silence)

Daniel: Now if you need anything, you can call uncle Daniel here okay. You guys hungry?

(silence)

Jamie: We want our daddy.

Daniel: Well….erm…you’ll see your daddy very soon, I promise. In the meantime….

Albert: No! I want my daddy!

Lydia: Albert!

(Shot focused on Lydia who appeared behind them)

Lydia: Daddy won’t be around for some time, You listen to uncle Daniel here okay.

Jamie: But we want…..

Lydia: Jamie! No more talk about daddy unless I say so, do you
understand? (looks at Albert) Same goes for you too. Now, get unpacked
and we’ll have something to eat.

(Albert and Jamie still didn’t budge)

Lydia: Now!

(The two kids proceeds to the room. Lydia and Daniel walks out, Shot focused on both of them, walking out of the room)

Lydia: I’m sorry about them, they’re too attached to their dad.

Daniel: Hey, it’s okay, they’ll get used to it.

Lydia: (sighs) I don’t know…..I hate things ending up this way, but I just…..

Daniel: (stops) Lydia, it’s all right. They’ll be fine. You’ll be fine.

(Silence. Lydia sniffs in tears. Daniel hugs her)

Daniel: Everything’s going to be fine.

Lydia: Thank …thank you Daniel. I wouldn’t know what I’ll do without you….I just…

Daniel: It’s okay, save it…..I’m here for you.

(Shot changes from afar where Jamie is peeking from the room entrance)

(Dream - Blurred vision of Albert and Jamie, Jake’s kids, being
escorted away by Lydia. Vision shifts to a very badly bruised Jake
crawling, trying to get through them)

Jake: Al….Jamie…..

(Jamie turns)

Jamie: Daddy!

(Jake falls down)

Jamie: Mommy, mommy. Daddy’s here now. Let’s take him together.

Lydia: No darling. Daddy’s not well now. We’re going first.

Jamie: But mommy, you promised! (Jamie breaks into tears) You promised that daddy will come!

(Albert breaks away from Lydia and runs towards a stumbling Jake.)

Albert: Daddy!

(A stout figure appears and catches Albert on time and drags him
away from Jake. Jake’s vision is fuzzing away and he faintly hears his
kids calling up his name)

(Sudden burst of breath. Jake’s eyes opened, he wakes up from his dream)

(Kitchen shot. Jake opens the fridge, takes out a bottle of Evian.
Closes the fridge door and rests his head against it as he opens the
bottle and takes sips from it.)

Audrey: Can’t sleep?

(Jake turns. Shot turns to Audrey who’s wearing a robe)

Audrey: I heard noises, just came by to check.

Jake I’m…sorry to…

Audrey: No…no, it’s all right. Are you okay?

Jake: Just…dreams. Al and….

(Jake sniffs, and then breaks into silent tears, Audrey closes in, hugs Jake)

Audrey: Shhhhhh, it’s okay now. I’m sure they are fine.

Jake: I….I missed them….

(shot zooms to a fade)

Morning. Sounds of bird chirping . The room was partially dim, and the windows were misty, the sides stained with snow. Lydia was seated on the bed, Jake was kneeling in front of her.

Jake: Lydia….

(no response. Lydia was still looking away)

Jake: (faint whisper) Lydia

(Lydia looks at Jake briefly, then turns away)

Lydia: It’s over Jake.
Jake: But (Jake tries to hold Lydia’s hands, but she pulls it away)….why?

(no answer)

Lydia: (crying tone) I can’t take it anymore Jake, I’m sorry. I am so sorry.

(30 second silence)

Jake: Who is it?
Lydia: Jake….no (Lydia reaches for Jake but he moves away, closing up to the walls, whimpering)

(Lydia approaches Jake slowly)

Lydia: There’s no one
Jake: You……you…hurt me. This…..hurts…so much….

(Lydia touches Jake gently, trying to calm him down)

Lydia: Jake, I didn’t mean to hurt you.
Jake: (screams)DON’T TOUCH ME! THERE’S SOMEONE, OR SOMETHING! TELL ME! WHO IS IT?

(Shot of room door outside the room, zooming away. Muffled voices of Jake and Lydia fighting)

Jake: YOU LYING BITCH!
Lydia: I WASN’T LYING!
Jake: FUCK YOU! YOU LYING BITCH!
Lydia: TO HELL WITH YOU JAKE! TO HELL WITH YOU! I WASN’T FUCKING AROUND! I LOVED YOU!
Jake: GO FUCK SOMEONE ELSE, DON’T EVER SHOW YOUR FUCKING FACE HERE!

(sound of violent thumps. Jake cries in pain.)

Lydia: I HATE YOU JAKE! I FUCKING HATE YOU!
Jake: ARGH!! NO!!

(Door opens, Lydia getting out)

Lydia: I’M TAKING THE KIDS WITH ME!(Lydia slams the door and runs out from the view, sobbing)
